I'm curious about how the 7800X3D stacks up against the 3700X specifically for 4K gaming in modern AAA titles. I've mainly found reviews that focus on lower resolutions like 1080P or 1440P. I'd like to know what kind of performance boost I can expect from the 7800X3D at 4K, particularly regarding 1% and 0.1% low FPS metrics. Is it worth spending around $700 for this upgrade? By the way, my current GPU is the 5080FE.

If your GPU is running at around 80% usage in a modern AAA game at 4K, switching to a more powerful CPU could help you squeeze out a bit more performance. You might see a noticeable difference in those lower frame rates like 1% and 0.1%, depending on how CPU-heavy the game is.

In general, I doubt you'll see a huge difference for most games, but ray tracing can really tax your CPU as much as your GPU. You might find that a Ryzen 5 7600X would be more than sufficient for most gaming scenarios.

It really depends on the type of games you play and the settings you use. If you're using DLSS, your actual performance might be closer to 1440p or 1080p before upscaling. Games that are more CPU-intensive, like simulation or certain RPGs, could show a significant improvement with a new CPU.

I would recommend dropping the resolution to 1080p temporarily during testing. If you still can't reach the FPS you're aiming for, then it's a clear sign you might need that upgrade. But keep in mind that some games with ray tracing can be demanding on the CPU too.
