Can I use an 8-pin PSU cable with my Dell motherboard’s 6-pin connector?

I recently bought a power supply unit (PSU), which is supposedly a Dell model (D240EM-00) but I'm not entirely sure about its authenticity. It provides 240W power, but I've run into an issue with the cables. The CPU connector fit perfectly, but I'm stuck because the PSU has an 8-pin cable while my motherboard only requires a 6-pin. I checked if it was a 6+2 pin cable, but it doesn't seem to separate. Is it safe to use this 8-pin connector with my motherboard's 6-pin slot, or could that cause damage?

Using an 8-pin PSU cable on a 6-pin motherboard connector can be risky if the voltages aren’t correctly aligned. If the pins aren’t outputting the correct voltages, there’s a chance you could damage your motherboard. Can you let us know which Dell motherboard model you’re using? That might help us give a better answer.

I'm using a Dell OptiPlex 7050 SFF.
