Why Can’t I Save My Autorun File on an External HDD?

I'm having trouble with my external HDD. My autorun.inf file was deleted, so I attempted to recreate it using Notepad. I typed in the following:

[autorun]

label="name of my drive".

But whenever I try to save it as autorun.inf, I keep getting a permission error. Has anyone encountered this issue and knows how to fix it?

You might also want to check the settings on your external HDD. Sometimes, external drives have read-only settings that prevent modifications. You can adjust those in the drive properties.

Just a heads-up, autorun files can be a security risk. What are you trying to accomplish with the autorun.inf file? It might be worth considering other options that are safer.

It sounds like you're dealing with a permissions issue. Try running Notepad as an administrator by right-clicking the Notepad icon and selecting 'Run as administrator.' That might give you the access you need to save the file on your external drive. Let me know if that helps!
