Is it worth trying Linux for gaming on my low-end laptop?

Hey folks! I'm considering installing a Linux distro on my laptop, which has an i3 4005U processor, 8GB of RAM, and an 820M Fermi GPU, to see how it performs for gaming. I've downloaded a couple of distros like Mint XFCE and Cachyos, but after doing some quick research, I'm worried about the performance due to issues like poor Nouveau drivers. Does anyone think it's worth the effort, or are there workarounds for older graphics cards like mine?

There are some workarounds, but honestly, it might not be worth it. You can still receive security updates on older distros that support your driver, but since your GPU doesn’t handle Vulkan, gaming performance with Proton will likely suffer.

What games are you looking to play? Just remember that Linux won’t bypass the minimum requirements for games.

I'm interested in games like Company of Heroes and Far Cry Primal. I was hoping to squeeze out a few more FPS, but I appreciate the heads-up!
