I'm looking to upgrade my PC from a 3060 12GB and the 7800 XT seems like a sensible choice within my budget, especially since I'm also planning a display upgrade. However, I've noticed that the performance difference between the 7800 XT and the older 6800 XT isn't substantial, and the 6800 XT is significantly cheaper in my area right now. Can anyone provide reasons why I should choose the 7800 XT over the 6800 XT?

The 7800 XT has a few advantages like lower power consumption, better ray tracing capabilities, and it generally runs cooler. Plus, it's a newer card, so it's likely to receive better support and features in the future. I went for the 7800 XT myself and I'm really happy with it!
If you're looking for price efficiency, the 6800 XT is still a solid choice. It's cheaper and less power-hungry, plus it's about three years older, which means it may not get features like the newer cards as often.
Honestly, I think if you're keen on saving money, the 6800 XT offers great value for what you get. I just did a similar upgrade, and I don’t regret going the cheaper route at all. The performance is still very respectable!
It’s a bummer that the 7000 series isn’t getting FSR 4 yet. That’s the only thing holding me back from getting a 7800 XT. I heard they're working on it, though.
