Which CPU and GPU combo should I choose for gaming: i3-12100F with RX7600 or Ryzen 5 3600 with RX7600/RTX3060?

I'm putting together my first gaming PC and I'm stuck between a couple of options for the CPU and GPU. I'm considering pairing the i3-12100F with an RX7600, or going with the Ryzen 5 3600 combined with either an RX7600 or an RTX3060. I want to play Microsoft Flight Simulator at 1080p High-Ultra settings with decent frame rates, and for most other games, I'm looking to run them at 1080p Ultra settings. I've seen some benchmarks online but I'm not an expert. If my current picks aren't ideal, I'd appreciate any recommendations for better combinations in a similar price range.

I'd recommend going with the Ryzen 5 3600 and RX 7600. While the i3-12100F has great single-core performance, it's only got 4 cores, which can be a hassle for multitasking in the future. The RX 7600 will give you higher raster performance too, unless you need specific Nvidia features.

I get that, but is having just 4 cores really that big of a deal? I'm mostly gaming at 1080p High/Ultra and I thought single-core performance was more important.

I say go for the Ryzen 5 3600 paired with the RTX 3060. The RTX3060 has more VRAM, and the performance is pretty close to the RX7600, plus you get the benefit of a 6-core CPU over the 4-core i3-12100F.

True, but the RX7600 seems to perform better at 1080p, even if the RTX 3060 has more VRAM and features like DLSS.

I think you might find the Ryzen 5 3600 with the RTX 3060 to be a better fit overall. It’s a solid combo for gaming and offers performance benefits that might come in handy down the line.

If you're confined to those options, I'd suggest going with the i3-12100F paired with the RX7600. It should give you solid performance for gaming at 1080p.

Yeah, that's what I'm leaning toward, but I’m just worried it's the best choice for the price.
