I've been using an old HDTV for gaming, but it's showing its age after fifteen years. I'm thinking of upgrading to a dedicated monitor. My setup includes a 5070 GPU and a 5700x3d CPU. What do you all think: Is it worth it to go for a 1080p monitor, or should I splurge and get a 1440p one? I'm really trying to balance performance and visual quality. Any suggestions?

For your setup, a 27 to 32 inch 1440p monitor would be a perfect match for your CPU and GPU. It strikes the ideal balance for gaming, giving you plenty of detail without overtaxing your hardware.
1440p has become the new standard for gaming. 4k won't really be mainstream for a while, especially given the extra power needed to run it smoothly. Going from 1080p to 1440p isn't a huge leap for your GPU, but trust me, it's worth it! I have a 5070 and I've been able to play games like Starfield at about 110 fps at 3440x1440 without breaking a sweat. So yeah, 1440p is the way to go!
I recommend aiming for a 32" monitor at 1440p minimum. If you're really into gaming, consider a 3440x1440 34" with a 21:9 aspect ratio—it's way better for immersive gameplay than the typical 16:9 setup.
