How to Configure Outbound Firewall Rules for Windows Update?

Hey folks! I'm trying to set up outbound firewall rules in Windows Firewall specifically for Windows Update. I've already whitelisted a few services like wuausvr, bits, and cryptsvc, and allowed all outbound ports. I even restarted these services, but I'm still running into issues with Windows Update failing to download. Anyone know if there are other services I should allow? Thanks!

It’s pretty rare that you need to enable outbound rules for Windows Update. You might be looking in the wrong place for the solution. Have you tried checking if your edge firewall allows traffic from Microsoft Update servers? That could be where the issue lies.

Make sure to add an outbound rule for Delivery Optimization. It's an important service for handling Windows updates, and it's easy to overlook. Check out Microsoft's docs on how to configure it if you need a guide!

If you’re blocking all outbound traffic in Windows Firewall, you’ll definitely need to whitelist these rules for updates. Just ensure you're allowing the necessary services and verify that your network settings are all correct!
