Hey everyone, I've got an x370 motherboard and a Ryzen 7 1700 CPU that I've been meaning to use. However, I'm missing the AM4 backplate. Is it possible for me to test the CPU and even install Windows without it? I only have the heatsink available. Any advice would be super helpful!

Not unless your cooler comes with its own backplate; otherwise it might not work well.
How do you plan on securing the cooler?
You can definitely fire up the CPU and check if your system posts. Just be cautious about temperatures because without proper mounting, the CPU might overheat and the system will shut down automatically if it gets too hot.
I was actually thinking I could just rest the cooler on top while I test it.
