I'm trying to figure out why there aren't more options for panel-mount USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports. I'm looking to add USB-C ports to my existing case, something similar to what StarTech offers, but for USB-C 3.1 Gen 2. My plan is to make some modifications to my case, like using a Dremel to create space for these ports, then attaching them and connecting to my motherboard's header. This seems straightforward, yet I can only find a few options on sites like AliExpress. Am I overlooking something obvious, or should I just go ahead and order the AliExpress option?

Honestly, you're not alone in wanting to modify your case, but the reality is that the demand for such specific parts is pretty low. Most people find it easier to just use a USB hub sitting next to their case instead of hacking things up.
If your case has an old 5.25" or 3.5" bay, you might consider using a USB-C adapter designed for those slots. There are options like a 3.5 inch bay USB-C adapter that can be a good fit. Just make sure your motherboard has the necessary internal USB 3.0 and USB-C headers available.
Great suggestion! I have a 2.5" drive sitting in my 5.25 bay, but I can definitely move it elsewhere. This could work perfectly, thanks!
The reason you might not find many panel-mount USB ports is that most front case USB ports are already wired to the motherboard headers. Since there generally aren't a lot of spare USB headers available, it makes creating additional ports a bit tricky.
Haha, right? It feels like there's not even a 'crowd' for this kind of DIY work.
