Hey everyone! I'm gearing up to build my new PC and I recently picked up a 650W power supply. I was just wondering, when it comes time to upgrade my PSU, do I really need to unplug and swap out all the cables, or can I just unplug them from the old PSU and connect them to the new one?

Yes, you definitely need to swap out all the cables. Power supply cables aren't standardized across different brands, so if you mix them up, you could end up frying your components.

When it comes to power supply cables, you should completely remove all the old ones. Even though some cables, like the one from the PSU to the wall, are standardized, the others are not. Avoid mixing cables between old and new units unless the manufacturer states they're cross-compatible. For example, Corsair has some cables that work across their models, but you have to be careful!

So, if I use cable extensions, does that really mean I can keep my cables organized without taking apart my whole rig?
