I'm currently using Business Premium and haven't been utilizing Microsoft Defender because I've opted for a third-party antivirus solution. However, I've noticed some features in Defender that seem valuable, like inventory data (specifically regarding browser extensions) and an additional layer of vulnerability management. Is it possible to enable Defender just for its reporting capabilities without activating the AV or firewall components for the time being? Thanks for any insights!

That’s a bummer! I did enable Defender too, and I’m getting some data, but it seems that Business Premium doesn't include browser extensions. It’s a bit ironic how they limit inventory capabilities. Looks like I might have to consider upgrading to P2 to get what I need. It really highlights why other solutions like Tenable are out there.
You can utilize some of Defender's features without the antivirus, but keep in mind that you're still paying for everything, even the parts you're not using. If your main concern is data and reporting, you should check what’s enabled under your current setup.
Keep in mind that the browser extensions are only part of the Defender Vulnerability Management Premium offering, not the Core version that comes with Business Premium. So, if you're looking for that specific feature, you may need to upgrade.
Thanks for that info! I'm mostly looking for reports and insights without having to switch away from my existing AV setup.
