Help! I Accidentally Uninstalled My AMD GPU and Can’t Reinstall It

I'm facing a pretty serious issue with my AMD graphics card and really need some help. I watched a YouTube video that suggested uninstalling and reinstalling my GPU driver to fix some performance problems. However, the video didn't mention using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU), so I mistakenly went into Device Manager and uninstalled the display driver manually. At first, the device wasn't appearing at all, so I enabled hidden devices and found it under 'Display adapters.' I right-clicked it and uninstalled it, thinking the AMD installer would detect it and reinstall automatically afterward. But now, things are not looking good.

Every time I try to reinstall the driver using the official AMD software, I hit a wall with Error 182, which claims that my hardware isn't supported. I also attempted using AMD's Auto-Detect tool, but I faced the same issue. Sometimes my GPU shows up as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter in Device Manager, and other times, it doesn't show at all depending on the boot. I cannot get AMD driver software to recognize my GPU anymore.

Here's what I've tried so far: I've downloaded the latest driver from AMD's site, used the Auto-Detect tool, reset BIOS settings to default, and even ran Windows Update. I've rebooted multiple times, including in Safe Mode.

I need help figuring out how to reset GPU recognition so that AMD Software can detect my graphics card again. Should I go ahead and use DDU now, even if the device doesn't show correctly? Is there a manual way to install the driver through Device Manager using .INF files? Additionally, any ideas on how to bypass or fix Error 182? Right now, I'm stuck with AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics, which is limiting my performance and resolution. I hope I didn't mess anything up permanently by uninstalling through Device Manager. Thanks to anyone who can assist!

Did you try clicking the 'Scan for changes' button in Device Manager? Sometimes that can refresh the detection.

Yeah, I tried that, but it didn’t work.

First, what GPU do you have? Knowing whether you have something like the RX 6400 will really help narrow down the options. It sounds like you're trying to force the wrong driver here, which could be the root of the problem.

It's an AMD RX 6400, so make sure to get the right driver version for it!

Honestly, if you’ve spent more than a couple of hours debugging an issue like this, I’d recommend going scorched earth. Backup your important files and just do a clean reinstall of Windows. It can save you a lot of headaches!

Would reinstalling Windows actually solve this? I just got the PC yesterday, so I don’t have a lot of data to lose.

Have you tried running AMD Adrenalin to see if it can detect and install the driver for you? Sometimes it can do the heavy lifting in situations like this.

Yes, I ran it, but it says I already have the latest updates, which is weird.
