I'm currently using a 12900KS with a water cooler, but it still hits around 85C-88C under load, causing it to throttle during gaming. I've been offered a trade for a 14900KS for just $50. I've heard that both these CPUs tend to run really hot, and while the 12900KS has a max temperature of 90C, the 14900KS goes up to 100C. I know the performance gain might not be huge, but I'm hoping the 14900KS won't thermal throttle like my current one does. Is it reasonable to expect less throttling with the 14900KS?

It's worth checking your BIOS settings! Sometimes, they can set the vcore too high, leading to unnecessary heat. Undervolting might help, but make sure to tweak those settings because it's tricky to get right. Definitely check if your BIOS is up to date.
Honestly, I wouldn't go for the trade. The 14900KS also runs really hot, and you might just hit that max temp too, especially if the 12900KS is already throttling. If someone's looking to trade, there’s a chance their 14900KS is having issues too.
Good suggestion! I think I updated it, but I'll double-check. Undervolting sounds like a plan, just need to figure out how to navigate it all.
