I've been struggling with my laptop for a few months now, and things are getting worse. Initially, Norton started giving me pop-ups claiming that my subscription has ended, which is strange since I've never subscribed. Alongside this, Opera GX began to take ages to start up, and eventually it wouldn't launch at all. I even tried downloading Google Chrome to see if that would help, but it wouldn't download either. I've restarted my laptop multiple times, both with and without preserving files, but Norton is still around, and the problems persist. I was advised to use Malwarebytes, but it turned up nothing. I'm really just wanting to get my laptop back to normal. (Edit: I figured it out! It was a file location issue that I couldn't resolve easily. Thanks for the help!)

Have you thought about doing a clean install of Windows? That should get rid of Norton for good and could also speed things up. Alternatively, you could try switching to Linux Mint; a lot of users say it runs better on their laptops compared to Windows.
One radical idea: if you're really frustrated, you could reset your laptop with a USB stick loaded with Windows (it needs to be around 8GB). Just make sure you've backed up all important files first, though!
If you're dealing with Norton, the first thing you might want to try is uninstalling it to see if that makes a difference. After that, consider uninstalling and reinstalling Opera GX. Check out your Task Manager too; it can tell you which programs are using too much CPU or memory, and what’s starting up with your computer. Also, make sure your system drive isn’t low on space—aim for at least 50GB free if you can.
