Could a HDMI to VGA Adapter Be Behind My PC Crashes While Gaming?

I've been dealing with some really annoying crashes on my PC while gaming, and I'm starting to wonder if my HDMI to VGA adapter is the culprit. I built this computer less than a year ago, and during my gaming sessions, it randomly freezes. This can happen multiple times in just two hours or sometimes not at all for days. When it freezes, my game and second monitor go dark, and even Discord stops working. The only way to get it back is to reboot, and then things work fine until the next freeze. It only seems to occur in certain games like Marvel Rivals and Warzone, but I don't have issues with Counter-Strike or the BF6 beta. I've tried a bunch of fixes—updated drivers, wiped Windows, adjusted my power settings, and checked my hardware, but nothing seems to show up as a problem. I'm starting to think it might be the adapter or possibly my PSU, which is a reputable brand but who knows? I'm really hoping to resolve this issue because I've spent a lot of money on this setup. Any insights would be appreciated!

I doubt the HDMI to VGA adapter is the issue. It sounds more like you might be facing driver problems, a VRAM leak, or perhaps some corrupted Windows files. You could try using some software to check for any corruption beyond just a clean install.

Thanks for the tip! Is there a specific software you'd recommend for checking corrupted files? And would running an OCCT test on VRAM help me detect any issues?

How are your temperatures during gaming? Any overheating could definitely lead to crashes.

They hover around 85-95 degrees Celsius while gaming, but when I'm just browsing, they're about 50-60.

I had a similar experience with my Ryzen 7 7800X3D. After a month of troubleshooting, turning off PBO in the BIOS fixed my random crashes. You might want to reset your BIOS to default settings and disable PBO to see if that works for you.

Interesting! Did you do the Microcenter bundle as well? I'll definitely give this a shot tomorrow.
