What’s up with my blinking CPU light?

I was watching a video when suddenly my PC turned off and now there's a red CPU light blinking. I have a Ryzen 5 5600 on a B450m Mortar MSI motherboard. I've tried a bunch of things: resetting the CPU, switching RAM lanes, resetting the CMOS, and making sure both the 8-pin and 24-pin connectors are secure. Nothing seems to work, and that pesky CPU light is still on.

It sounds like you might have a defective part. The most likely culprit here is the power supply. If that's not the issue, it could be the motherboard. A faulty CPU is the least likely problem, but it's worth considering too if everything else checks out.

But my motherboard and CPU are brand new, got them just a month ago!

Have you updated your chipset drivers for Windows? It might help to clear out any old drivers from your motherboard too. Sometimes that can cause issues after upgrades.

I usually keep Windows updates off, and I haven't done that yet.
