A friend of mine is offering to trade his Sapphire Pure 7900 GRE for my EVGA FTW RTX 3080 10GB, plus $50-60 on my end. Both graphics cards are in great shape. I'm curious if I should take this deal. I've always found AMD drivers to be a hassle, and the performance difference hasn't seemed that significant to me. While the 7900 has 6GB more VRAM, I'm wondering if this trade would make my setup more future-proof. What do you all think?

I wouldn’t do it either. From what I've seen, the performance increase is like 15% in raster graphics, but may actually drop about 13% in ray tracing. Plus, you’d lose CUDA and OptiX, which is a big deal if you do any rendering with something like Blender. If you're looking for a real upgrade, might as well wait for the next-gen cards.
Honestly, I’d pass. The performance jump just isn’t that big. You might get more VRAM, but if you can’t actually utilize it due to the GPU power, it’s not worth it. Better to stick with what you've got unless you’re really struggling with performance.
But the upgrade is just $50. What’s a new 5080 going to cost you?
