I found a broken phone on the street today, and I'm looking for ways to return it to its owner. The screen is shattered, and I can't see anything on it. Since I brought it home, I took out the SIM and storage card and put them into my old phone. I'm a bit worried and have a few questions about this process:
1. Is it safe to use someone else's SIM and storage card in my phone, considering the phone was factory reset? What if my phone wasn't reset?
2. I didn't get any contacts when I put in the SIM or storage card; I think I only have the owner's phone number. What can I do with that?
3. I tried messaging the number via WhatsApp, but I haven't heard back yet.
4. When I called the number, my old phone rang, but now it says 'Emergency calls only.' Is that why I'm not able to receive calls now? What should I do? Thanks for any help!

You should definitely consider taking the phone to the police or a lost and found. They might be able to help you find the owner, even though it can be hit or miss depending on where you are. If you're worried about that route, maybe check with the phone carrier? They might have a process for reporting lost phones if it's not prepaid.

In some places, the police often don't actually help with lost items like this. Just be careful with where you take it! It might be worth it to contact the carrier directly.
