Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle and could use some advice. I've been a dev lead at a mid-sized company for a few years, and for the most part, I've enjoyed it. My boss has always been a decent guy, but lately, he's developed an obsession with AI coding tools. It started off as a quirky hobby, but now it's affecting our work. He lacks technical knowledge and relies on these tools without question, even giving them access to our production server against my warnings. This has caused some serious issues, like bringing our server offline and changing configurations unexpectedly. I'm torn between wanting to address this directly with him or going over his head to higher management. Is it time to polish my resume and consider a new job, or can this be resolved?

You really need to find out who your boss's superior is and speak to them. If he continues to ignore your warnings, it’s only a matter of time before this spirals out of control, and someone in management has to be responsible for that.
I think you’re making the right move by considering escalation. Your insights can save the team a lot of headaches!
You might want to consider having one last heart-to-heart with him, but lay it on the line. It's either you as the lead or the AI messing everything up. If he doesn't listen, you're better off looking for another position where your expertise is respected.
This is so true! It's hard to work under someone who doesn’t see the big picture. You deserve to be in a place where your experience matters.
Absolutely! Don’t hesitate to put your career first. It’s okay to take a step back if it keeps becoming a larger issue.
Honestly, it might just be time to upgrade your job prospects. If this keeps causing issues and he’s not taking it seriously, finding a new position could be what’s best for your career. Just remember, having no AI policy can sometimes backfire if you ignore its rise in the industry.
Yeah, looking for other opportunities can be empowering. Just remember to be strategic about it! Make sure your next boss is someone who values tradition and technical expertise.
Good point! While it’s fine to keep an eye on AI, it shouldn’t be your only tool. Keep your standards high when job hunting!
I think you should definitely talk to his manager. This situation is serious, and keeping it quiet won't help you or your team. Your concerns about security and the overall well-being of the project should take priority. If he's blind to the risks, someone higher up needs to step in and set boundaries for him.
Totally agree! It's tough, but it sounds like you're doing the right thing by wanting to protect your team. Management needs to know before it all goes south.
I feel you! Your boss may not listen to you, but a manager might be more inclined to take it seriously. Better to be proactive!
Man, sorry you’re dealing with this! My boss has been pushing AI too, and it's been a nightmare. If it gets any worse, it might be worth documenting everything so you have proof if you need to escalate it.

Agreed! Sometimes, you have to go up the ladder to get things sorted out properly. Good luck!
