How do I make Wine work on Linux Mint?

I'm trying to run Wine on my Linux Mint system. I installed it through the Software Manager, but when I try to launch it, nothing happens, and I can't find it anywhere on my computer. If it can only be run from the terminal, could anyone recommend a good GUI to help me run Windows programs more easily? Something like how Steam manages games would be great!

If you're not comfortable using the command line much, I totally understand! Wine can be tricky to use that way. Some users find it easier to set up a virtual machine with Windows using tools like GNOME Boxes for specific apps.

You could also check out q4wine. It’s another launcher that might help you with managing Wine better.

Just out of curiosity, what Windows application are you trying to run with Wine? Knowing that might help others provide you with better advice.

Wine itself isn't a launcher like Steam; it doesn't come with a GUI. Instead, it just runs Windows executables and translates their API calls to work on Linux. You won't see anything happen by just launching it. I suggest you try using Lutris, which is a good GUI frontend for Wine to make running Windows programs easier.

Have you looked into Bottles? It's a program that can manage Wine installations and might simplify the process for you.
