Should I Trade My 5700X3D for a 5700G?

I'm currently using a 5700X3D, and while it's pretty awesome, I know that at some point, I'll want to switch to a new platform and eventually convert this setup into a Plex server or NAS. I'm concerned because I have a compact ITX board with only one PCIe slot. If I don't want to use a GPU for graphics output, I'll need to get an APU, which means I'll have to swap out my current CPU. Given that AM4 is getting phased out and stocks are dwindling, I'm considering selling my 5700X3D while it still has good resale value and getting a 5700G. However, I'm unsure how much performance I would lose by making this change. By the way, I'm currently using a 5070Ti and am waiting for the next Intel or AMD refresh to upgrade further.

Have you considered picking up a cheap used graphics card instead? This way, you won't need to change your CPU and could still use your PCIe slot for other upgrades in the future.

That’s a valid point! I might need some extra PCIe slots later for things like a 10G network card or more NVME drives.

Before making a decision, consider if you’ll need remote access to your Plex server outside your home. If so, having a good upload speed is essential. If you're actually planning to share it with other people, that's another factor. But if it's just for you, the 5700G could suffice!

Yeah, I think flexibility is key. Sometimes, you just want to be able to stream from anywhere!

If you decide to sell your 5700X3D, I’d be interested! Just throwing it out there. 🙂

There are plenty of reviews out there comparing both CPUs, so take a look at those! Keep in mind that without your specific use case and the type of games you play, it’s tough to give a solid answer. Reviews from channels like Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed could be really helpful here.

True, but it's tricky since the 5700G is from 2021 and the 5700X3D is newer. There aren’t many direct comparisons available because of that.
