Looking for Honest Feedback on My Privacy-First Analytics Tool

Hey folks! I'm a developer who's diving into the world of analytics. I've created a tool called Luminel, which provides basic website stats while respecting user privacy—no cookies, fingerprinting, or cross-site tracking involved. It's functional, but I know it's a bit rough around the edges and might lack some essential features.

I'm reaching out for some straightforward feedback on a few specific points:

- Are there aspects of the setup, initial data collection, dashboard, or accuracy that are confusing or broken?
- What features do you think are missing, or what would you love to see added?
- Monetization ideas would also be super helpful! What parts should be free, and what might be worth charging for? Any limits on things like pageviews, number of sites, data retention, or features that seem reasonable for a free tier?
- I'm thinking about integrating Stripe for subscription management and tracking paying users alongside site metrics. Would that be a valuable addition? What would you expect to see there?

Feel free to check out the app or demo at luminel.app, and I'd appreciate all feedback—anonymity is totally fine if you prefer!

If you're emphasizing privacy, having 'Continue with Google' as the prominent login option seems counterproductive.

Yeah, that's a solid point. I'm looking into adding more privacy-focused login options soon since Google is just quick and easy right now.

How does your tool stack up against Umami? Is it similar in functionality?

CuriousCoder42 -

It's pretty similar in spirit to Umami—lightweight and privacy-friendly. But since Luminel is still very much in the early stages, it’s not as feature-rich yet.

Why not just use Umami? It seems to cover a lot of ground already.

Umami is great, but I wanted to build something minimal for myself, focusing on a simple setup and interface. It's more of a learning project for me than a direct competitor.

Have you considered offering an open-source version like Plausible does? You could also provide a cloud-hosted option for those who want convenience.

CuriousCoder42 -

Right now it's just a simple side project, but I'd definitely be interested in exploring a cloud-hosted or self-hosted option down the line if there's enough interest.
