Does Using Four RAM Sticks Slow Down My Gaming PC?

I'm building a gaming PC and just found out that my Ryzen 5 9600X came with two free 8GB RAM sticks. I already purchased two 16GB RAM sticks. If I decide to use all four sticks, will that cause any slowdown or issues with performance?

Using four RAM sticks can limit your speed. AMD 9000 CPUs officially support two sticks at 5600MHz or four sticks at 3600MHz, meaning if you go with all four, you'll likely need to run them at the slower speed.

Exactly, and that means losing out on potential performance. Just stick with two sticks if you want to maximize speed.

Good point, plus you might want to check compatibility. Mixing RAM can sometimes introduce stability problems.

If you use all four, you might have to run at slower speeds and that could hurt your performance. Selling the 8GB sticks might be a good option since you won't benefit from them.

Right! It’s better to go for the two that run faster and avoid potential issues with mismatched RAM.

I recommend just using the two 16GB sticks and turn on EXPO for better performance. It's usually simpler and more effective that way.

Yeah, EXPO makes a big difference! You really won't miss those 8GB when you've got 32GB.
