What is DesktopExtension in Task Manager and can I close it?

I noticed something called "HP" in my Task Manager, and under it, there's a process named DesktopExtension that's using up to 23% of my CPU. I have an HP Pavilion Gaming 3050 with an i7 11th Gen processor running Windows 11. I'm unsure if I should just end that task or if it could cause issues. Any advice?

It sounds like DesktopExtension is part of the HP software suite that comes with your laptop. Sometimes it can hog resources, especially if you're not using any HP features actively. Disabling or optimizing some HP services in the services menu might help! Just make sure to only disable what you know you won't need. Restart your computer after to see if it improves performance.

I'm a bit confused though. If I just end the DesktopExtension task, will that mess anything up for me?

HP laptops are known for throttling performance on older models. If you’re not using the HP-specific features, feel free to end that task. It shouldn't cause any major problems, just be mindful that some functionalities tied to HP might be affected.
