Looking for Recommendations on UPS Units for IDFs

I've just started working in a new building with some pretty outdated equipment. The previous tenants had a lot of small Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs) about every 20 feet, mainly for managing a large number of cameras. Currently, each IDF is equipped with a Tripp Lite SMART1500RM2UN UPS from around 2019 or 2020, but as you can guess, the batteries are mostly dead.

I'm contemplating replacing these units because I've noticed a specific issue: when the batteries fail, these UPS units stop providing power entirely and can't be accessed through the network, which is a real hassle. My understanding is that most UPS models keep functioning and supply power while connected to the wall, even when the batteries are shot, which allows you to still manage them. Is that correct?

I want to ensure that the units we install now are reliable for the foreseeable future, so I'm looking for suggestions on newer models. I need recommendations for 2U units around 1500VA/1000W, and if they can be centrally managed, that would be a bonus—though I assume that might require a cloud service subscription. Any thoughts?

We recently switched all our old APC units to the Eaton 9PX lithium models, and we've been really happy with that choice. They offer solid performance and reliability—which is key for your needs.

For a lightweight and short-depth option, the APC lithium models could be a great fit. They could help manage the weight and space issues you might be dealing with in those IDFs.

I would recommend checking out Vertiv or Eaton for reliable options. Both brands have good reputations in the industry and should serve you well without the headaches that come with some other brands.

Just a heads-up: most line-interactive UPS units power their electronics from the battery and charge from the mains. If your battery can't hold voltage, the UPS won’t turn on, which is a common issue across many models. APC does offer a 1U or 2U Smart-UPS setup that can work with network cards for monitoring. Also, I’d suggest looking into replacing the broken batteries in your existing Tripp Lite models, as that could save you a ton compared to buying new units!

How does that work? If you take the battery out to replace it, does the UPS shut off?
