I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to connect a mini-HDMI port to an AV setup directly. Is it possible to find a cable that has mini-HDMI on one end and standard AV on the other, or will I need some additional equipment to make this work?

You won’t find a direct mini-HDMI to AV cable because HDMI is a digital signal and AV is analog. You'll need a converter in between to make the connection work. So, a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable paired with an HDMI to composite (AV) converter would do the trick. Just keep in mind, it's not a simple plug-and-play situation!
Right! And I’ve seen those cheap HDMI to composite cables out there, but they often don't work well or only function under specific conditions. Just stick with a proper converter for the best results!
