I'm dealing with a pretty serious issue. I've had my Gmail account since 2016, and I mainly use it for junk mail. Recently, I discovered that someone else has been using my email address for really horrible things, including sending hate mail and even death threats. It's gotten to the point where they tried to log me out of my eBay account and changed my address to Canada, but I live in the UK! I've changed my password, but this person is still accessing my account somehow. How is this happening? I'm also disturbed that now I have access to their address as well! What should I do to fix this?

First thing you should do is update all your recovery options. Change any linked phone numbers and set a different secondary email for recovery. Make sure that nothing in your accounts is still associated with that email. It’s crucial to lock it down!

Thanks! I'm on it. I just realized I was only 11 when she first used this account, and I got it 5 years later. It feels like I might have inherited her 'abandoned' account. Seriously strange!
