I'm new to my role as an Asset Manager at a company with around 500 end users and between 500 to 1000 assets to manage. My main goal is to find the right IT Asset Management (ITAM) software that integrates well with MDM solutions like Azure, Intune, or JAMF, while also allowing us to track non-managed assets like Starlink satellites, vehicles, and credit cards. I also need a system that enables easy tagging for company subsidiaries, locations, jobs, projects, and users. Although Jira claims to handle all these features, I've found it quite unintuitive in practice. After a week on a free trial, I feel stuck due to several issues:
1. The Data Manager Adapter requires a Windows Task Scheduler or CRON to sync assets with MDM solutions, which isn't ideal.
2. The process to use the Data Manager Import feature is overly complicated because I can't find the necessary buttons to create "Saved Searches" as instructed in their documentation.
3. Mapping the Assets Schema is a manual task with no user-friendly dashboard; it feels more like working with a database than an actual asset management tool.
Has anyone here used Jira as an admin for ITSM and ITAM? I'm really frustrated and worried about having to explain to my CFO the wasted time on a tool that seems to not deliver as promised.

I tried Jira Assets once and ended up feeling like I was fighting against a database. Sometimes simpler tools can actually get the job done better without all that overhead!
I've used JSM Assets a lot and I get where you're coming from. I skipped setting up the Data Manager despite its complexity because the Assets feature alone can handle quite a bit. Just a heads-up though, it seems like Data Manager is still in the works, so you might want to consider other methods to manage your assets!
I hear you, using Jira for ITSM can be pretty rough. My experience with the tool has been hit or miss—when it worked, it was great, but it could be frustrating, especially with syncing issues. I hope you find a smoother path moving forward!
Exactly! I faced a lot of similar issues too. Good luck with your setup!

Thanks for your insights! Do you know any alternative ways to import and manage assets without using Data Manager?
