Struggling to Enable Macros in Word via Intune – Need Help!

Hey everyone! We've been trying for weeks to enable macros in Microsoft Word through Intune because our organization has an add-in that needs it. We've hit a wall with our attempts, which included using an App Config Policy and a Custom XML M365 Apps package, both of which failed. The closest we've come was using a Device Configuration Profile based on suggestions from others. We got macros working in Outlook fine, but Word is another story. Sometimes it seems to enable, but after restarting Word, it goes back to the default settings, leaving us frustrated. This issue has occurred on various setups, including fresh Windows 11 installs and different device brands. We've left the configurations in place for over 24 hours, including multiple restarts, and still have only seen success with Outlook. Can anyone help us troubleshoot what's going wrong? Check out our screenshots for more details!

Honestly, in my experience, you would probably regret trying to enable macros this way later on. It's not the best practice long-term.

This sounds extremely risky! Have you considered signing the macros instead? By generating your own code signing certificate, you could just approve the signature on your machines. It’s definitely a safer option and could potentially allow you to enable them automatically. There might be built-in failsafes preventing direct enabling for security purposes though.

This is actually how we've handled it successfully.

Yeah, that was our initial plan, but management insisted on this method regardless.

Have you thought about pushing a PowerShell script to modify the registry instead? That might be another way to handle the macro settings more directly.

Just a heads up, you can't really use Intune for managing settings for Apps for Business. You may need a different approach.
