Help! My PC Keeps Randomly Shutting Down – What Could Be Wrong?

I've been having some serious issues with my PC ever since I switched to a new motherboard (MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus) after my previous one (Asus ROG Strix B550-A Gaming) died. Initially, the system would boot up but then start shutting down randomly after a while, and it won't turn back on unless I switch the power supply off and on again. When I finally do get it to power on, the fans spin briefly, but then everything shuts off again. I've let the system rest and tried powering it on, but it just shuts down again after a few minutes. I've already re-seated components like the CPU, RAM, graphics card, and SSD, and even replaced the thermal paste, although I didn't have overheating issues. The power supply seems fine upon testing it, and the RAM lights stay on when the PC is off, which suggests it's getting power. Here's my setup: Ryzen 5 5600 CPU with stock cooler, Radeon RX 6700 XT, 2 x 16 GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo RAM, Kingston KC3000 512 GB SSD, Corsair CX550 PSU, and Lian Li Lancool II Mesh case. Any ideas on what might be causing this? I'd really appreciate any advice!

I agree with the last poster. It's definitely a good idea to consider the PSU as well. Since everything else seems fine, including temperatures, and it just shuts down unexpectedly, it really seems like a power issue. If you can, consult a list to find an A-tier PSU, ideally 650W or higher. It could save you a lot of hassle!

Thanks for the tip! I hadn’t considered getting a new PSU because the motherboard is still receiving power. I’ll definitely check that out.

Man, I think you should really check the power supply unit (PSU). That’s generally the common culprit for random shutdowns. It's great that you have a relatively new one, but it's possible it could still be malfunctioning. Sometimes, shorting the 24-pin connector only tells you if it's dead, not if it's working properly under load. It sounds a lot like a power issue to me!

Yeah, I didn't think about that! I was convinced my PSU was fine since it was new and I’ve heavily used it before. Maybe I should look into getting a higher-tier PSU just in case.
