What’s the Real Deal with VMware Tanzu’s Status?

I've been trying to get a handle on the current situation with VMware Tanzu and its relationship with Kubernetes. To be honest, the marketing website is pretty sparse; the only mention of Kubernetes is in the FAQ, and it mostly showcases the Cloud Foundry CLI. It leaves me wondering: Is Tanzu really dead? Did VMware bury it quietly, or is it just being ignored? I'm particularly curious if they're making any real efforts to sell Kubernetes as part of their offerings.

Tanzu seems more like a branding exercise than a coherent product line. The constant renaming and lack of a clear direction have made it complicated for customers. They once had several Kubernetes variants like TKGm and TKGi, but now they seem to be centralizing around vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS), which feels more like a niche option for existing VMware Cloud Foundation users. Outside that circle, it doesn't hold much relevance. The larger Tanzu portfolio is still there, but good luck finding clarity or momentum in it!

Honestly, VMware nowadays feels like a company that rebrands FOSS solutions and charges a premium with a support plan. My team is moving away from them to save costs and simplify things.

Are you switching to a different vendor or just going for a vanilla setup?
