Struggling to Install Windows 11 24H2 – Any Tips?

I've been hesitant to install the Windows 11 24H2 update due to past performance issues with games, but I finally decided to go for it. I ran some benchmarks on my games first to compare performance. However, I've hit a wall during installation. When I tried updating through Windows Update, it got stuck at 97% for over an hour. After restarting, it just got stuck at 97% again. I then tried using the Windows Installation Assistant, and now I'm staring at 87% for the same duration. I've done a 'sfc /scannow' check that didn't reveal any issues. I'm at a loss here, and this has taken up my entire Sunday without any progress. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you're getting stuck at 87% with the Installation Assistant, it could help to check if you have any critical updates pending. Sometimes these updates need to be resolved before the major upgrade can continue. Also, keep an eye on your BIOS settings – just in case there are changes that might affect the installation.

First things first, make sure your Windows 10 is updated to at least version 23H2 before trying the Windows 11 upgrade. Also, check your drive space. I had a similar issue where a 'Windows.old' folder took up 40GB after failed updates. You don’t want that clogging up your space!

Just a heads up – are you upgrading or reinstalling? If you're reinstalling using a USB drive, unplug it before your computer reboots. If you leave it plugged in, your PC might just boot back to the USB instead of completing the installation.
