Hey everyone, I'm having a tough time trying to update my dad's PC from Windows 10 version 1809 to a newer version. Every time I attempt to use Windows Update for 22H2, it gets stuck at 96% during the preparation phase, and I keep getting the error code 0x80070714. I've also tried the Windows 10 Update Assistant, but that fails with the same error. I've deleted the SoftwareDistribution folder and even ran a script that's supposed to help with updates, but no luck there either. I've done the usual SFC and DISM scans, fixing some corrupted files, but it hasn't resolved the problem. I even checked the memory with no issues found. At this point, there's no third-party antivirus on the system. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this sorted?

Have you thought about doing a clean install using a USB flash drive? It might save you a lot of headaches in the long run.
Before doing a clean install, it’s worth trying to update to 22H2 manually. You can follow the steps here: [Update Windows 10 Version 22H2](https://onlinecomputertips.com/support-categories/windows/update-windows10-version-22h2/) to see if that works for you.
