Jobs Stuck When Printers Are in Sleep Mode – Need Help!

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some help regarding an issue we're facing with our new Konica Minolta printers that support Microsoft Universal Print. We've recently upgraded all our printers, but we're noticing a problem: when the printers go into sleep or standby mode, they don't receive print jobs from Universal Print. The job statuses in the Azure portal just get stuck at "Pending" or "Paused." The only workaround we found is to manually wake the printer, which isn't ideal for our users. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this and if you've found a solution or any tips that could help us out! Thanks!

We actually gave up on Universal Print after a couple of weeks of it being frustrating. It had random issues where different computers wouldn’t print to the same printer, even though they were identical setups. Ultimately, we switched to direct driver deployment and found that the print jobs were responsive and printed quickly, which made everyone happy again. Universal Print seemed great at first, but for us, it just didn't cut it.

That’s interesting! I think they’ve improved since we started using it, especially with accounts on the same computer. It was a hassle back then, but it seems like it’s stable now for us.

Honestly, the best advice is just to avoid using MS Universal Print if it’s causing so many headaches for you. There might be better solutions out there!

I’ve seen a similar issue with Ricoh printers. The only thing that worked for us was to change the printer's sleep mode to an hour and inform staff that the printer needs to be awake to receive jobs. Universal Print seems to struggle with low power states since it's more about outbound connections, which might be why it stays stuck. I wish I had a better solution, but that’s what we’ve dealt with!

I get what you're saying! We initially went for WiFi connections as well, and the whole setup sounded promising. It's frustrating to hear this issue slipped through testing. We’ve invested in features that might not even deliver! Sigh...

One tip I can suggest is to adjust your printer settings. In the printer properties, go to the Ports section, click on Configure Port, and uncheck "SNMP Status Enabled." Sometimes Windows holds back print jobs if it thinks the printer is offline, so this might help. Also, ensure SNMP settings are properly configured on both your print server and the printers.
