Is Higher FPS Than 240 Even Worth It?

I'm curious about the advantages of having a frame rate higher than 240 FPS. Given that I have a 240Hz OLED monitor, it seems logical that my display can't show more than 240 frames per second, right? Currently, I have a 34-inch 100Hz UWQHD SVA monitor and I'm planning to build a new PC without upgrading my monitor. If I'm playing Forza Horizon 5 and want the best visuals, am I correct in thinking I only need to get a GPU that can handle 120 FPS at a resolution of 3440x1440? Also, how can I figure out which GPUs can achieve that? I'm considering the RTX 5070 Ti paired with a Ryzen 9800X3D.

If your monitor already has a refresh rate of 240 Hz, aiming for higher FPS is pretty pointless. People chasing higher numbers are just misinformed. It's all about maximizing what your display can offer.

Honestly, 240Hz is more than enough for competitive gaming. I doubt anyone would truly benefit from going higher than that, even the pros!

Higher FPS can reduce input lag, but the benefits taper off pretty quickly. A lot of gamers want that up-to-the-millisecond feedback, especially in competitive settings.

Honestly, most players can't even notice a difference at those frame rates. Beyond a point, it's just bragging rights!

Exactly! The monitor caps you at 240 FPS, so higher just leads to timing issues with frames not showing up correctly.
