I'm in the process of putting together a new PC rig featuring a 9800X3D, and I currently have a 5900X with a 3090. I'm debating whether to keep the 3090 or make a switch to a 9700XT. Would it be a reasonable change, or is the 9700XT just a lateral move? Any insights would be appreciated!

Switching to a 9700XT would be more of a side grade, in my opinion. I'd stick with the 3090 and see how the GPU market evolves in the next year or two, especially with RDNA5 on the horizon.
Yup, just keep using the 3090 for now. It’s still a top-tier card, so you might not even need to switch!
Just keep the 3090! It's a powerhouse, and depending on your needs, it might still be all you need for a while.
