My girlfriend has a PC that suddenly stopped turning on when using the power button. It seems to power on by itself after a few hours, but only after the power button was pressed beforehand. Does anyone have any insights into what might be causing this issue? I suspect it could be a problem with the power button, but I'm not completely sure.

If the PC still turns on by itself after the button is pressed for a while, it’s possible the power supply might be cycling incorrectly. It's worth having a look into that as well.
That definitely sounds frustrating! Have you checked if any loose wires could be causing the problem? If you’re feeling adventurous, you can try jumping the power button pins on the motherboard with a screwdriver for a quick test, but remember to be careful with that.
It sounds like there could be an issue with the power button itself. Sometimes they can stick or become unresponsive over time. I suggest checking if it's hard to press or sticking in the casing. If it feels fine, it might be something else behind the scenes, like grounding or another internal issue.
