Are USB-C connectors more durable than traditional earphone jacks?

I'm trying to figure out if USB-C connectors are more reliable than the standard barrel jack earphones I've been using. I have a pair of Bluetooth earbuds, but I also rely on traditional wired ones. I've noticed that the barrel jacks often need to be rotated to work properly, which is annoying. I'm curious if USB-C would have fewer issues overall, especially since I plan to use them on my PC and might also connect them to my phone while the Bluetooth ones charge.

I wouldn’t say one is definitively more durable than the other. A quality audio jack can last for years without issues, and the same applies to USB-C if you invest in a good cable. However, one big advantage of barrel jacks is the ability to charge devices while using them for audio, which can help protect the charge connector from wear and tear.

That makes sense. I'm looking to get a good JBL audio jack option, but since I can't use it for charging on my phone, it's not an option for me.

USB-C connectors do face some durability issues since they're used for both charging and data transfer. With all that plugging and unplugging, the connectors can wear out, which might make them less durable in the long run. I've personally had to replace the charging board on a phone because the USB-C connector got spotty from all the use.

In my experience, audio jacks are generally stronger and easier to replace if something goes wrong. USB-C might seem innovative, but jacks can often take more wear and tear without problems.

The main difference between the two is where the springs are located. With a barrel jack, the springs are in the socket, so if they wear out, you'll have to replace the whole socket. But for USB-C, the springs are in the plug, so if they fail, you just need to swap out the cable. Most modern designs take this into account for better longevity.

The fragility often comes down to the cable itself rather than the jack. Barrel jacks can have weak spots where the wires bend, leading to breakage. However, you can easily replace the connector on older analog setups compared to USB-C, which can complicate repairs.
