Should I Upgrade My i5 14600K or Switch to AMD 7800X3D?

Hey all! I'm using an i5 14600K for gaming, specifically CS2 and Dota 2 (12v12 matches), and I recently upgraded from a 12400F. I've noticed a slight bump in FPS while playing on my 1080p 240Hz monitor, but I'm still on DDR4 RAM. I'm wondering if it's worth it to invest in a new motherboard for DDR5 with LGA1700, or if I should consider switching to an AMD 7800X3D? Would that make a significant difference? My current GPU is a 9070XT. Any advice would be appreciated!

What motherboard are you currently using? If it's a decent one, it should support your 14600K just fine, but check if the VRMs can handle its performance. If they're not up to par, that could be limiting your CPU's potential.

I'm using an ASUS Strix B660 Gaming A WiFi D4. Any tips on how to tell if the VRMs are sufficient?

Check out the benchmarks; moving to a 7800X3D is reported to offer an average uplift of about 20 FPS. But honestly, it depends on your gaming habits—if you're pushing a lot of recent titles, the upgrade might be worth it.

If you were in my shoes, would you rather stick with the 14600K or make the leap to the 7800X3D?

Switching to the AMD 7800X3D could give you a decent FPS boost—averaging around 20 FPS more based on some benchmarks I’ve seen. Just keep in mind that you'll need to consider the cost of building a new system versus the performance gains you might receive.

After posting my 12400F online, someone bought it, which led me to upgrade to the 14600K. Now, I'm kinda unsure if the performance bump was worth it since I feel just okay about it.
