Why are my external SSD folders showing as files on my Android?

I regularly use my external SSD, but today when I plugged it into my Android phone, I got a warning message saying the SSD needs to be fixed and formatted. This made me panic, so I immediately disconnected it and checked it on my PC where everything seemed fine. After rebooting my phone and reconnecting the SSD, I'm still facing an issue where my folders are showing as files, and their size is displayed as 0 Bytes. I can create new folders, but I can't access the old ones. I'm particularly worried because my dad uses this SSD for storing data from his iPhone, and I'm concerned he might remove it without properly ejecting it. Also, I'm slightly paranoid about the possibility of a virus on either the SSD or my phone, although I find that unlikely.

I've encountered a similar issue before, and it could be related to how the SSD was formatted originally. I recommend checking if it was formatted with a file system that android doesn't fully support. Try to see if you can access the SSD with a different file manager app on your phone just to double-check. If not, you might want to back it up on the PC and reformat it, but be cautious not to lose anything important!
