Should I Disconnect the Battery When Replacing a Laptop Screen?

I recently had a Lenovo Yoga i7 screen replaced after it fell out of the casing. However, I picked it up from the repair shop and discovered that it won't turn on, and there's no indicator light even when plugged in. The repairman claimed he didn't touch the battery or the laptop's bottom during the repair, but I remember being taught to always unplug the battery and discharge any residual power during any laptop repair to prevent damage. It's making me wonder if he skipped that step. I'm concerned he might not be telling the truth, especially since I overheard him misleading another customer earlier. Could not disconnecting the battery during the screen replacement cause the charging issue?

I always disconnect power whenever I’m messing with any laptop or desktop. It's just a good habit to avoid frying anything. That said, it sounds like the repair shop might have messed something up during the process. If they're unsure about what happened, you should definitely push for a refund or proper compensation for the mistakes they've made.

Best practice is absolutely to disconnect the battery anytime you’re working inside a laptop. If the shop didn’t do that, then they probably caused the issue themselves. You should definitely follow up with them and see what they can do to make it right since they seem to have messed something up during the repair.

That’s reassuring to hear. I’ll make sure to press them on it, thanks!
