Hey everyone, I've run into a serious issue with my PC. A friend gave me two power supplies, but only one worked, and when I plugged it in, it seemed like every time I connected the SATA power cables to my SSD, the fans would spin for a moment and then stop. A moment later, the RAM lights would turn on, but as soon as I unplugged the SSD, the PC worked fine and sent a display to the monitor. However, I only got into the BIOS and couldn't boot into Windows no matter what I did.
Thinking the SATA power cable was the problem, I got a new SATA data cable from Best Buy to fix things. After swapping the cables and reconnecting everything, I noticed one of the cables had melted a bit, which was pretty alarming. I took a chance and tried to boot from BIOS to reinstall Windows using a flash drive. Now, my PC turns on, the fans spin, the lights glow, but then it just stops and restarts over and over. Did I totally mess up my setup, or is there still hope? By the way, my specs are GTX 1070, a Corsair 500w power supply, and 32GB of RAM. This PC is about 7-8 years old, built by someone else before I bought it four years ago.

It sounds like you might have caused some damage, especially with that melted cable. When cables melt, it can short out other components, potentially affecting the motherboard. It's not uncommon for a faulty power supply or cable to create cascading issues like that. I'd suggest checking all your connections, and if you have a spare PSU, try swapping it out to see if that helps. It could also be worth reseating your RAM and GPU just to eliminate those as potential trouble spots.
It’s a bummer to hear about the restarted boot loop! Given the melted cable, it’s possible that you’ve damaged either the PSU or the motherboard. You mentioned the PC was running before this happened—has it ever shown signs of instability prior? If you can, try booting with minimal hardware (just the CPU, one stick of RAM, and the onboard graphics if available) to rule out other components.
