Hey everyone! I'm currently halfway through my full-stack web development bootcamp, and I'm starting to feel a bit lost and burnt out. I came from an Economics background with IT as a minor, and I've always been passionate about coding for its logical and problem-solving aspects. My goal is to feel confident enough to build useful applications that help people and eventually launch a small business of my own.
However, with the rise of AI and its capabilities, I find myself questioning whether my efforts in learning to code are worthwhile. I also work full-time, and while I enjoy coding, I'm feeling pretty exhausted and somewhat depressed lately. I've put time into this bootcamp with hopes of pursuing a long-term career in tech, but I'm doubting if I should continue or consider changing paths. I really appreciate any advice or honest opinions you have on whether I should push through or rethink my direction!

Your concerns about AI and coding are valid but mostly, I think you should focus on your personal projects and what excites you. Building something that matters to you can create intrinsic motivation. Maybe try developing a website around one of your interests? It’s perfectly fine to take your time with this journey. Also, switching careers is a big decision, so think about what skills you bring from your Economics background—they can actually make you more versatile in tech.
I think it's important to take a step back and not let AI freak you out too much. Sure, the landscape is changing, but coding isn't going away anytime soon. There will always be a need for developers, especially for complex projects. You’re already in a good position by learning these skills. This could also be a great opportunity for you to network and build connections while you're at it. And if you're feeling burnt out, don't hesitate to take short breaks to recharge. The key is to enjoy the journey of learning and creating!
