How Do the SN 850x, 8100, and 7100 Compare for a New Boot Drive?

My old Samsung 990 Pro boot drive has unfortunately failed, and I'm in the market for a new one. I was initially leaning towards the SN 850x, but I've come across two newer models, the SN 8100 and 7100. I'm curious if these newer options are worth the extra cost, or if the SN 850x is still the best choice for performance and longevity. Any advice would be appreciated!

If you're after a reliable boot drive, the SN 850x is great. It has proven longevity and decent performance without the need for Gen 5 features. Plus, with some gift cards, it sounds like a deal you shouldn't pass on!

Exactly! It’s definitely a great option, especially with those gift cards in the mix.

You might want to check if you really need PCIe 5. If your system doesn't support it, I'd say skip the 8100 and 7100. The price jump just isn’t worth it if you won’t see a performance boost. The 850x should serve you well if you’re looking for reliability without breaking the bank.

I agree! The 850x seems to be a solid pick unless you're planning to upgrade your entire system soon.
