I'm looking for a lightweight Linux distribution for my 15-year-old Intel desktop. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 processor and only 2GB of DDR2 RAM. I tried installing XUbuntu, but it gets stuck at the GRUB loading screen for hours when I use a bootable drive. I'm mainly planning to use this machine for backups, running a OneDrive client, and possibly turning it into a cloud server. Can anyone suggest a suitable distro that I can install without messing up my existing non-OS partitions? I'd love to finally switch from Windows 10, which has been a hassle.

I suggest trying out Linux Mint with the XFCE desktop environment. I have an old HP laptop, and it runs smoothly after I swapped out the hard drive for an SSD. It’s a great way to keep your old files and system intact while getting decent performance.
