I'm looking to upgrade my aging Ryzen 5 5600X setup, which currently has an RTX 2070, and I'm set on getting the AMD RYZEN 7 9800X3D CPU. However, I'm a bit lost on choosing the right motherboard to pair with it.

I have three M.2 SSDs: two are Gen 4 and one is Gen 3, and while I'm not upgrading them just yet, I plan to switch to Gen 5 in the future. Additionally, I want 32GB of RAM running at stock settings and will be using an RTX 5070. I don't plan on overclocking anything for now.

Could anyone suggest the best RAM and motherboard options?

Avoid ASRock motherboards if you're going with the 9800X3D. They can cause issues, so stick with more reliable brands.

Honestly, the 7800X3D is all you need. For the GPU, either the 5070 Ti or the 9070 XT will do well. Just make sure to get a B850 motherboard (just steer clear of that ASRock option) and an 850W PSU for good measure.

I'd recommend considering the 7800X3D instead. You can save that cash and put it towards a 5070 Ti, which will boost your FPS significantly since it has 16GB of VRAM. The 7800X3D and 9800X3D are compatible with the same motherboards, providing a better upgrade path down the line. Why spend more for a minimal gain with the 9800X3D?

Before you dive in, what's your budget and where are you located? Also, what resolutions and settings do you aim for in your games?

I'm looking to keep everything under $1500, and I'm gaming on a 3440x1440 UW monitor with two additional 27" monitors, so I need four outputs for my Valve Index. My main game is Borderlands 4, which runs alright on my current setup, but I need to upgrade since a power surge recently took out my motherboard's LAN port.

You should go for 2x16GB of 6000MHz CL30 RAM and pair it with a B850 motherboard. This setup will give you great performance with the 9800X3D.
