What Could Be Wrong with My Laptop’s Motherboard?

My Acer Nitro 17 laptop was working great just a couple of days ago, but now it won't turn on at all. I took it to a shop, and they told me it's likely a motherboard issue. I haven't spilled anything on it or dropped it, so I'm curious what might have caused this problem. Is this a common issue for motherboards, or is there something specific that could have caused it to fail?

Motherboards can fail for various reasons, even without any obvious external damage like drops or spills. Basically, heat can slowly degrade the components on the board. Even though your laptop is only about a year old, it could be that one of the tiny parts on the motherboard started failing earlier than expected. The cramped space in laptops doesn’t help either, since they get hot more easily than desktops. It's often just bad luck with components wearing out or failing sooner than they should.

That makes sense. It's such a pain when things break so early! I thought these laptops were supposed to last longer.

Exactly! It's not uncommon for a laptop to have motherboard issues, especially given how compact everything is crammed into the case. Sometimes, electrical currents can generate heat that slowly wears components down over time without you noticing anything wrong until it suddenly fails. Unfortunately, there's usually no way to predict when that might happen, so I’d say you might have just been unlucky here.
