I'm building a new gaming PC that will mostly run at 1440p, using a 5070ti graphics card. The 9800X3D is about $150 more than the 7800X3D. Do you think it's worth spending the extra $150 for the 9800X3D, or will the 7800X3D perform just as well in games? Just to clarify, the extra $150 isn't a huge budget issue for me, but I'd like to be smart with my spending if I won't see a big difference in gaming performance.

Think about what you could do with that $150 instead, like getting more games or better peripherals. It really comes down to whether a slightly better CPU is worth it to you personally. Also, keep in mind that CPU performance is more about the type of games you play, not just the resolution.
If your main focus is gaming at 1440p, I’d suggest going with the 7800X3D. The performance difference isn’t really significant for most games.
Just a heads up, your title mentioned the 7900X3D but then talked about the 7800X3D in your post. Overall, the 7800X3D is generally better for gaming compared to the 7900X3D, so if that's what you meant, I think you're on the right track!
Haha, yeah, I totally messed that up! Thanks for pointing it out!
There's not going to be a huge noticeable difference. The 9800X3D can be around 20% better in some cases, but it's game-dependent. You’ll probably still be happy with the 7800X3D now, and you can always upgrade later.
Haha, everyone loves higher numbers, but you're right—I'm just looking for solid performance!
I’ve got the 7800X3D with a 5070ti and play on max settings even at 4K. No issues at all. So if you’re playing at 1440p, you should definitely be fine with the 7800X3D! No need to stress.
Awesome, that gives me more confidence in choosing the 7800X3D!
Good point, I hadn't thought about how dependent it is on the games I play!
