Why Can’t I Change My External Hard Drive’s Name?

I'm having trouble changing the name of my external hard drive. I've tried a few methods, like running a chkdsk command to repair it and checking its properties, but nothing seems to work. I've looked online for solutions, but I'm still stuck. It functions perfectly, but it's really annoying to see the old name. Does anyone have any tips or alternative methods I could try? Here's a link to a screenshot of the drive: https://imgur.com/a/bTZvouK

It sounds like you've already put in some solid effort! One thing you might want to try is assigning a new drive letter to it. Sometimes that can help reset some settings. You can do this through the Disk Management tool in Windows. Just right-click on your drive and choose 'Change Drive Letter and Paths.' It might just shake things up enough to let you rename it.

Another option could be to format the drive, but keep in mind this will erase all your data. If the naming issue is driving you nuts and you can back up your files, it might be worth it. Otherwise, have you tried renaming it while it's connected to a different computer? Sometimes the issue can be specific to just one system.
